I stage Beijing opera performances with Michelle Jiang, transporting you to a world of grace and expression with her choreography. Beijing opera is a traditional theatrical art form that brings together the most vibrant elements of Chinese culture. With its vivid colours and rousing music, this traditional art form takes us on a journey into a world of legendary tales through song, dance, lyrics, martial arts and acrobatics. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, Beijing opera is a precious cultural jewel to be preserved and enjoyed. It is an art of detail and refinement. Just the make-up for a female role can take three hours of preparation.

I'm aware that many people tend to confuse Beijing Opera with Opéra de Montréal. In reality, this traditional Chinese theatre takes its name from its birthplace, Beijing, and originates in the famous Kunqu Theatre (昆曲), one of the oldest in the world.
Thanks to my three teachers in Montreal, I had the chance to learn this ancestral art, which immediately won my heart. Since then, I've organized several shows and opened Beijing's first opera school for the general public in 2018. I aimed to share this art's beauty with as many people as possible and introduce them to this fascinating and unique discipline.
