Description
A vivid immersion in the Chinese oral tradition
Have you heard of Pingshu (评书)? Originating in the Song Dynasty, this ancient art of storytelling captivates audiences through the power of words, voice, and gesture. Much more than simple storytelling, Pingshu is a stage performance punctuated by three iconic traditional props: the fan, the table hammer, and the handkerchief.
This workshop invites participants to discover this fascinating heritage, understand its inner workings, and learn the fundamental oratory techniques of Chinese storytelling. Beyond exploring a little-known cultural heritage, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to develop public speaking skills and become comfortable on stage. By exploring the rhythmic storytelling of Pingshu, participants learn to modulate their voices, capture the audience’s attention, and become aware of their body language. Working on eye contact, posture, and intent allows them to bring the story to life with intensity, stimulating the imagination while building self-confidence when speaking in public.

About the Artist-Facilitator
The workshop is designed and led by Aurore Liang, a seasoned performing artist who has been practicing Pingshu since the age of 6.
As the only trilingual Pingshu storyteller in Quebec, she is also the first woman of Chinese descent in the province to have earned the title of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), Toastmasters International’s highest honor recognizing excellence in communication and leadership.
Drawing on her dual background in the arts and public speaking, she shares this art with rigor, pedagogy, and generosity.
