Storytelling workshop, Humanity's Oldest Art

Target group : Grade 2 to 6

Facilitator : Aurore Liang 

A storytelling and public speaking workshop, funded by the Ministry of Education, encourages students' creativity, improves classroom communication, enhances children's speaking skills, fosters an interactive learning environment and stimulates students' interest in literature and language.

This workshop aims to :

- Understand the origins and principles of Pingshu - the Chinese art of storytelling
- Cultivate observation, synthesis and oral expression skills;
- Stimulate creativity, encourage self-confidence in front of an audience and promote a spirit of teamwork.

Examples of activities

Presentation Of Pingshu And The Main Principles Of This Practice

Participants will have the opportunity to discover Pingshu, a Chinese-style storytelling art dating back over 2000 years. They will learn about the essential characteristics that distinguish it from other storytelling styles.

Tale Presentation

Participants will have the opportunity to listen to a captivating tale lasting 5 to 7 minutes, immersing themselves in the world of storytelling. This performance is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of a professional model of storytelling, thus fostering the development of their artistic skills.

Storytelling Method

The facilitator will guide participants through the essential principles of storytelling, presenting a clear structure to follow. This step will let participants grasp the fundamental elements needed to create an engaging and captivating narrative.

Reading Exercises

In teams of 2 or 3, participants choose age-appropriate books, spending around 20 to 25 minutes reading
and repeating the reading or telling the story together. This activity encourages collaboration, the sharing of ideas and the collective exploration of different facets of the selected stories.

Oral Presentation Exercises

Each team presents the story it has discovered to the group in just 2-3 minutes. The facilitator will then provide feedback, highlighting positive points and suggesting individualized avenues for improvement, to
encourage continued growth and self-confidence.
