On May 20, 21, and 22, 2025, the Maison de la culture Claude-Léveillée hosted six performances of the show “Legends of Millennial China” as part of the L’ENFANT ET LES ARTS program.

This performance transported students into the world of great Chinese legends, combining Guzheng music, Beijing Opera, and Pingshu—the traditional Chinese art of storytelling—blended with a touch of contemporary Québec theater. Thanks to a lively, participatory, and visually striking staging, the children discovered the foundational myths of China.

"The creation of the world and the creation of human beings are existential questions. I am very happy to see that children can explore answers to these questions in the Chinese version, through a participatory and entertaining show," explains Aurore Liang.

During the performances, the students were deeply attentive, absorbed in the story, and moved by the characters’ fates. Some even voiced their concern aloud during moments of dramatic tension, a clear sign of their immersion in the narrative. At the end of the show, the children rushed to meet the performers, eyes shining, eager to take a photo with their new heroes.

For many, this encounter with a culture rarely represented in school curricula was a true discovery. The show succeeded in conveying not only knowledge but also emotion and curiosity that will linger in memory for a long time. A wonderful success that continues to open young minds to the richness of the world through art.
